Why it is not just dirt

Construction dust is a material, not a mess

Gypsum sanding dust is milled far finer than household dust, which is why a standard vacuum blows it straight through the bag and back into the room. It carries three things worth taking seriously, and each needs a different response.

Silica
From concrete, mortar and some board products. Needs HEPA extraction, not sweeping.
VOCs
Off-gassing from fresh paint, adhesives and sealants. Ventilation and time, not wiping.
Fines
Settle for days after work stops, which is why one pass is never enough.

Post-construction cleaning typically costs $0.25-$0.75 per square foot, depending on the project scope and condition. For a standard 2,000 square foot home, expect to pay $500-$1,500 for a complete final clean. Rough cleaning (debris removal only) costs less at $0.10-$0.20 per square foot.

What's the difference between rough clean and final clean?

A rough clean happens mid-construction to remove large debris, sweep floors, and do basic dust removal. A final clean is the detailed, move-in ready cleaning done after all construction is complete, including wiping all surfaces, cleaning fixtures, removing paint spots, and detailed dusting.

How long does post-construction cleaning take?

A typical 2,000 square foot home takes 6-10 hours for a thorough final clean with a 2-3 person crew. Timing depends on home size and renovation scope. Larger projects or new construction may require multiple days.

Is construction dust dangerous?

Yes, construction dust can contain harmful particles including silica, VOCs, and fine particulates that irritate lungs. Professional post-construction cleaning removes these hazards using HEPA-filtered equipment and proper techniques.
